The council confirmed Mini’s death in a statement on Tuesday after he succumbed to the respiratory disease, for which he was hospitalised for longer than a month.
“All of us were hoping he would pull through,” said Grace Khoza, general manager for stakeholder relations at CMS. Mini was lauded for having served the country as well as the entire medical industry with great distinction in many roles and capacities over the years. Tributes have been steadily streaming in, highlighting his impact on the medical fraternity.“We have lost a great leader, healer and a friend,” it said, extending its condolences to his family and loved ones.
DA MP Siviwe Gwarube said: “Mini’s passing is a loss to the South African health industry. His role as chairperson of CMS was critical in the crafting of the country’s universal healthcare path. During all my interactions with Mini in Parliament, he demonstrated compassion, kindness and a deep understanding of South Africa’s health system and its challenges.”Get in touch
