PETALING JAYA: More nurses need to hold leadership roles as nursing is the backbone of the healthcare industry, says KPJ Healthcare Bhd.

Its chief nursing officer Maygala Arumugam said the personality and training of nurses, which is centred around caring and nurturing, translates well in leadership roles.

Maygala said when she thinks about leaders, she thinks about people who can understand and reach out to fellow team members, adding that they also know how to transform and share the vision of the organisation. She also said nurses as leaders must have an influential role in strategising and implementing the best in evidence-based nursing practices, so that they are on par with current nursing trends.
