New York is trying to build what could become one of the largest contact tracing programs for COVID-19 in the U.S. Starting this month, the state's looking to hire up to 17,000 workers.

"If we don't start the contact tracing work, we have to shelter in place for longer periods. And I think that's something that most people are not wanting to do, obviously," says Dr. Kelly Henning, an epidemiologist who leads Bloomberg Philanthropies' public health program.

The key to contact tracing is to collect information, as soon as possible, from people who may be infected. That's especially important with the coronavirus because some people who have it don't have symptoms.Contact tracing efforts have also raised concerns about privacy. "We would never mention a name," says Sarah Braunstein, the director of the city health department's HIV epidemiology program who is helping to lead the local contact tracing program for the coronavirus."It would be someone you know — or someone you were in close contact with — tested positive for coronavirus, and you may have been potentially exposed."

So far, the city has received more than 4,000 applications for 1,000 contact tracing jobs, including from Shernidane Romelus, a student at Brooklyn College at The City University of New York who is studying health and nutrition science with a concentration on public health.

Cuomo and De Blasio and the NYC filthy and contaminated subways.

So they are going to contact trace the more than 2.7 mill people that are already infected and contact trace them? Maybe you haven't noticed but the horse has left the barn. Those results should be in by this time next year. They'll probably want Fed $ for this boondoggle.

What do you know... what a great way to put people back to work and help eliminate the pandemic... to bad our administration makes fun of this idea... keep us poor and let us die

I found their training video

Here's a novel idea: tell people to keep a diary and then tell them to contact the people themselves, to let them know they've been tested and diagnosed positive. Why isn't that part of the mantra, along with masks, distancing and washing hands? Why is 'big brother' the default?

maybe they should focus on cleaning the subway first.

How long until someone comments: “yOu ShOuLd HaVe BeEn DoInG tHiS 2 MoNtHs AgO”?
