South Korean health authorities raised new concerns about the novel coronavirus after reporting last month that dozens of patients who had recovered from the illness later tested positive again.

South Korea had reported more than 350 such cases as of Wednesday, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .As more and more South Koreans were released from treatment for COVID-19, authorities discovered a disturbing trend. Some ostensibly cured patients were later testing positive again.

The RT-PCR process can quickly return results and is considered the most accurate way to find out if a patient is infected with the coronavirus. This so-called false positive result is likely behind the cases of recovered patients testing positive again, the KCDC says. Less than half of those retested by mid-April were showing symptoms, according to the KCDC, but authorities now say it is unlikely that those symptoms were being caused by the virus.Patients who tested positive for the new coronavirus after recovering from COVID-19 do not appear to be infectious.

Whatever the facts of this matter is—-we need it verified and nailed to the ground. It’s so important to KNOW—either way! Obviously hoping THIS study is correct.

Thank you!

Gas leak from a South Korea LG Chemical plant in India. 13 dead, 100 critically injured and more than 5,000 people with breathing problems.

FYI, the test kit pick up the residual of dead CV19 virus. This could be due to test being too sensitive. Most important thing, not shared in the report, is that the false positive cases do NOT infect others. We should be thankful.

We knew it. We also knew the accuracy of test kits made by Korea is very low but somehow no news media inthe west mentioned it.

Gee really!!?

SHHHH!!!!! Do NOT release any information that makes this pandemic look less scary- c'mon!

Good news for sure if true

I hope this is true

Duh... But you had a lot of fun scaring people the last couple months, right?

so how legit are these tests again?

*sigh*

Excellent news as supports theory that people can become immune - backed up by early plasma trials. This disease is beatable.

The only good news I have heard in a long while.

morus123 Proving what many of us suspect - the entire testing regime, from start to finish is fundamentally flawed. No wonder death rate figures are so skewed. Cui bono?

Interesting development re a virus that we are learning more about every day. Depending upon what the test (read kind of test) is looking for false positives/negatives are possible.

No really? Everybody with a brain and no sinister motives knew this. You just wanted to spread panic.

that would be the least bad option.

Narrative from the WHO and CDC crumbling daily. Arrest these people

Great news. So immunity for those who had it.

If it was 'false positive' what's the diagnosis of the sickness of those who were severely ill?🤔

Good

Glimmer of hope in a sea of helplessness; would be so reassuring if proven.

rdivia Isn’t this like old news as of today ? Or something new got added ?

Every day we learn more about this Coronavirus and it’s good news.

Thanks Reuters. This answers the pertinent question we have been worried of!

Most of the African cases of coroner virus are false positives and governments must launch urgent investigations on testing kits and other gadgets used.

Shocking, you mean virus’ behave like they have since the beginning of time? No way.

Some are yes but the deaths are not
