Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was released from a Maryland hospital Wednesday after an overnight stay for treatment of a gallstone, the Supreme Court said.Ginsburg, 87, is expected to return to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in the coming weeks for further nonsurgical treatments to resolve the gallstone.
Ginsburg took part by telephone from the hospital Wednesday in the unprecedented telephone conference call arguments the Supreme Court launched this week to keep cases moving amid the coronavirus pandemic. Her voice sounded shaky at times on the call Wednesday, but she delivered cogent questions to lawyers for both sides.Ginsburg's latest health scare Tuesday, one day after she initially sought medical attention for the gallbladder issue.
The latest statement from the court did not specify what treatment Ginsburg is receiving, but one common, nonsurgical treatment for gallstones is lithotripsy — a method of using shock waves to attempt to break up gallstones so they will pass out of the body.Filed Under:
