The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union has welcomed the labour court judgment on Friday compelling the department of mineral resources & energy and energy to set minimum health and safety standards during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The union went to court to compel the department to set minimum standards for health and safety at mines during the Covid-19 pandemic. The case was heard om Wednesday and Thursday and the court order was handed down on Friday. He said while the union has consistently declared its support for the mines ramping up production, it maintained the view that a return to work can only happen once national minimum standards are in place.
