PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia records a slight jump in its new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (Apr 29), after confirming 72 new infections among returning students from Indonesia.

The 72 are related to the"Pesantren Cluster" detected among Malaysian students who returned to the country from Indonesia’s Magentan region earlier.

“Out of the 94 new cases reported today, 72 are imported cases involving Malaysians who returned from Indonesia. "This means only 22 of the new cases are local transmissions, ” said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah at the ministry’s daily Covid-19 press conference here on Wednesday .The government has ordered all Malaysians to be placed in quarantine centres for 14 days upon their return.

Dr Hisham said so far, 226 returnees had tested positive for Covid-19 and were currently being isolated and treated at the country’s health facilities.Earlier, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said there were currently 17,440 people being kept in 226 quarantine centres throughout the country.Article type: free
