Generation Z - already saddled with enormous national debt - should not have their education put at risk due to appease the teachers' unions, Sky News host Rita Panahi says. State governments have come under increasing pressure in recent weeks to reopen schools to students as Australia begins to turn the coronavirus corner. However, some states have held firm against medical advice, a decision Ms Panahi branded “unmitigated idiocy”.
"We are told to listen to the science but then we have state governments completely disregarding the science and the advice of the country's foremost medical experts in order to appease teachers unions,” she said. "We are saddling generation Z with enormous national debt, the least we can do is to ensure that they are not further disadvantaged with their schooling.
RitaPanahi Why are children and teachers different from the rest of the community? Is Covid 19 invisible to the naked eye and spread through droplets in coughs and sneezes? Has the government selected schools as a test case for relaxing the isolation criteria? Which group is next?
RitaPanahi We have a Prime Minister who refuses to listen to scientific advice on a range of issues. He only listens if it serves his Liberal donors wishes
RitaPanahi Unions are the straw man in her argument. It has nothing to do with them. She is parroting the consistent Murdoch view that opposes strong preventive measures in favour of weak ones.
RitaPanahi So supermarket workers all other essential workers doctors nurses etc overall have had no real issues but teachers are more special ? Unions need to go its corrupt they would say never go back to work if they could and demand a pay rise selfish
RitaPanahi Question to ask the teachers 'Do you watch and luv the ABC' 1) Yes !!! Ok, please stay locked in your house for the foreseeable future 2) No, never !!! Ok, you can go back to work now
RitaPanahi oh no, Rita, surely not a union-bashing story on this subject!?
RitaPanahi Please tell me how many teachers have been whuflu positive and how many school children have been affected
RitaPanahi Sky News rants against authoritarianism, and yet insists teachers go back to work. How about the people putting themselves at risk decide and you stay out of it. If you are so confident, send Rowan Dean back to school. He could do with some education.
RitaPanahi This is just such a tiresome and entirely predictable comment from the hack that is ritapanahi. Really a disgraceful commentator that does not deserve the air time she receives.
RitaPanahi And by attacking the unions you are attacking the voices of teachers, teachers that are concerned about the welfare of their students, and the same ones that have gone above and beyond to keep students engaged with their learning at home
RitaPanahi Rita you are 100% correct.Andrews has a power trip going bigger than Hitler!
RitaPanahi You are like the FOX news of Australia, propagating dangerous ideas and right wing bullshit.
RitaPanahi can teachers sue if they become ill or die?
RitaPanahi Umm it remains to be seen if any lives are being put at risk. Guess if you're dead you don't have to be saddled with debt.
RitaPanahi Don't get on your high horse and pretend to care about Generation Z's fortunes when you're bashing teachers' union from the ideological right.
Gen z was always going to have a lot of debt ,because they can’t get they heads out of they phone they local takeaway their online shopping .
haven't we worked out that this crap is all about socialist revolutions?
Rita WHO surely can't be a Redneck.
Nothing to do with appeasing anyone to do with saving lives.every country under lock down has closed their schools .what does that tell you.
So, it’s okay for my daughter, a Doctor in ED in Victoria, all healthcare workers carers essential workers including supermarket & distribution workers, to risk their lives, but not teachers. Why are teachers more special, and why is my daughter different to your son or daughter?
More discredited blathering from Panahi who ponticates that she knows better than our State Health Officials, purely based on ideology. This time blame the Unions, I guess it makes a change from blaming the ABC!
murdoch slept bad last night..launches rita the anchor lol
Teachers, saddled with enormous workloads and political pressure, should not have their lives placed at risk by Sky News ideological, anti union vitriol which attempts to appease their foreign owner.
Tweets like this make me wish there was a hate button not a love button. Parents are not keeping their children home to appease the teachers' union...they are keeping them home because they don't want them to die or pass on something to elderly loved one. STOP THE ME ME ME stuff!
Yes,let them kill their family instead.
unions strike again Australia must move forward and dissolve unions employment freedom is essential
Rita is wrong. Why should teachers or parents be put at risk by kids in the Petri dish? If they should be, then let’s open businesses, restaurants and churches too!
Professor Isaac Ben-Israel, chairman of the Israeli Space Agency and Council on Research and Development, shows that “the spread of the coronavirus declines to almost zero after 70 days—no matter where it strikes, and no matter what measures governments impose to try to thwart it
Rita is a dead set member of the COVIDIOTS moron collective
Dan Andrews has to own this. It was the wildly pessimistic modelling best case scenario of 11.5% infection that is scaring teachers. The USA best case is 2-4% and has been validated by observed data. Our BS modelling urgently needs to be re-done insiders
