Health authorities will review Australia's national medical stockpile after it emerged personal protective equipment subject to shortages - including gowns, visors and goggles - were not among items put aside for a crisis.
Greens Senator Richard di Natale said the revelation was concerning as frontline health workers were facing the possibility of being unable to provide care to the most critically ill patients. The national medical stockpile had about 21.5 million masks at the beginning of the pandemic, including 12 million P2 and N95 masks and 9 million surgical masks, after 3.5 million P2 masks were distributed during the bushfires.
Dana_Adele Or importantly were they ignored until past their use by dates and then dumped as some reports suggest. Some 29 pallot loads estimated to be over $120 million dollrs worth is mentioned in the reports. Maybe the Commonwealth Aditor General may need to investigate.

Dana_Adele Presumably the national stockpile was stored in a warehouse somewhere in China. We're doing it with the fuel stockpile, so presumably it's standard practice.
