MANILA - A seafarers' group on Friday criticized the alleged double standard of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration over the treatment of repatriated Filipino workers affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

These include those who already have signed contracts and approved by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration and those who still need the POEA's approval; seafarers who completed the 14-day mandatory quarantine; and newly arrived seafarers, especially from cruise ships, still undergoing quarantine.

“ipagpalagay natin na sa isang barko 400 Pilipinong marino yan, isasakay sila sa isang barko, hindi eroplano ang maghahatid sa kanila sa Pilipinas kasi nasa 2,000 sila. Biruin mo, kung 2,000 yan mapaghandaan ba nila hotel para dyan?” he said. Returning OFWs and even those from the Chinese city of Wuhan where the virus originated have undergone quarantine measures at the New Clark City in Tarlac.
