How many, and which, of the social distancing measures should stay once Australia is on the other side of the COVID-19 pandemic? One expert wants to keep several in place.

In response to the global coronavirus health crisis, Australians have adapted to more rigorous hygiene routines, are working from home and keeping their distance from others — but should social distancing become permanent? The Public Health Association of Australia wants some social distancing measures to stayBut an epidemiologist says the measures will not be required once COVID-19 is controlledsome of the response measures and social changesProfessor Slevin has watched with interest as strict...

He said while there was a strong incentive to go back to how things were once it was safe to do so, many of the steps were worth keeping. "There are things that we will all have learned out of this experience and I think it's important we give thought to how we can sustain those changes," Professor Slevin said.

"We're seeing more use of hand sanitisers, being conscious about keeping distance from people in a range of settings, and there are likely benefits to be had if we find ways of continuing to do that.

Humans are social beasts, even the most fascist regimes never imposed social distancing. More “experts” with heads full of rocks.

Moving forward can we at least agree it’s a hard no to spitting, not covering a sneeze/cough, cuffing snot or touching face when serving customers (well any body part ideally).

I'm happy to keep the stay 1.5m away from me rule

OMG definitely....

How about we don't though, comrade

What bunk, the shut down of the economy has limited the virus spread, not social distancing. Better to have a vaccine as just one case of the virus will spread again

How about we don't. What would be the point?

More bollocks and shite from ABC/CCP.

A lot of white people who don't know what oppression and fascism is are crying in here...

Better hygiene & worse immune system . I have not washed my hands once yet entering anywhere . Healthy a horse .

Oh what a surprise ! I’m shocked ( sarcasm )

How's go and get nicked sound what a complete moronic idea We are told to do too many things that are taking our legal rights off us too easy FIGHT BACK

Continue to social distance so those CCTV cameras can identify you correctly. CCP style. Ok people

Shaking hands is to ensure the other party isn't carrying a weapon. I think we can do without that now.

Well if companies or industries can find a way to schedule working from home it could have benefits aswell to reducing traffic, public transport crowding, disease transmission, and maybe allow people more of a chance to visit a doctor if theyre worried about being sick.

Oh fascism, nice.

No. Just. No.

Allow those that can and want to work or attend schooling from home to do so, as long as nothing is mandated in law I have no issues with keeping social distancing as standard practice voluntarily.

Just another bloody expert. Where do these news outlets find these whack jobs.

To control you, that is the sim.

And nobody saw THAT coming. It's not just like clockwork at all.

We could probably reduce the incidence of flu by not shaking hands and getting too close. Hand washing could also help.

keep the social distance in shops. (lines on the floor) i don't want those germy-goobers creeping up on me again in the future. eeeeuuuww !!!
