Fearing a flood of lawsuits over COVID-19 outbreaks, nursing homes and other health care facilities have been seeking — and gaining — temporary immunity from potential civil suits in several states.

But those calls for immunity also raise questions about accountability and whether poorly run nursing homes are being given a pass. Another reason these protections are necessary, Kallheim says, is that the guidance from the federal government, as well as the understanding of the virus itself, are constantly changing.

In some states, Louisiana for example, legal immunity is already on the books in case of natural disasters, when health care facilities might be overwhelmed. The measures kick in as soon as the governor declares a state of emergency. Nursing homes have been ground zero for COVID-19. The awareness of the grave dangers of the disease began with an outbreak at the Life Care Center nursing home in Kirkland, Wash. where at least 37 people have died.

We need an alternative to these vile places. My sister died from neglect in a nursing home.

Most nursing homes force patients to sign binding arbitration agreements waiving the right to file civil suits anyway. Obama banned the practice so Trump, of course, rolled back the protection.

how can nursing homes be held responsible when the federal government refuses to equip states and hospitals and medical professionals with the necessary protection?

? Why they collect a lot of $ from residents. And they certainly did not get care!!

At least we now know that an Attorney is an essential worker‼️

Employers are going to need this too

Before immunity is granted even on a short term basis, states should have vetting in place to make sure nursing homes were medically safe by following all state guidelines. My opinion is most homes are understaffed when it comes to RN's and most other staff are underqualified.

Will bowling alleys, tattoo and massage parlors also be given immunity from COVID19 lawsuits when their employees get sick?

Family is quick to sue ! But not to visit ... Even before the virus ... But as soon as they die all of a Sudden “NANA DIED” “ That Nursing Hime “!!!

“Temporary immunity”? Really? I thought my dreams were crazy. No! When you become a healthcare provider or facility, you take in inherent risk. That’s why you carry an insurance policy and/or bond. Your job was to follow infection control.

Loop Holes in the system that lets Blue Color Crime get away with murder!

With how society worships youth & wealth & sees the elderly as disposable, feels like these places are just built to let people slowly die. It is fucking TERRIFYING to think I might end up in one when I’m old (assuming civilization hasn’t outright collapsed at that point)

Oh. Perfect. 😡

NO NO NO NO. Companies should be liable for their negligence WHAT THE FUCK

Uh no!
