Aged Care Minister Richard Colbeck has confirmed a western Sydney care home is still suffering staff shortages despite government assurances to lift them amid a battle with a coronavirus outbreak. Speaking with Sky News on Thursday, Mr Colbeck said while staffing levels at Newmarch House have improved, they’re “still down on where we’d like them to be”. “We had a couple that didn’t arrive as we expected today but we continue to work on that,” the senator said.

“We are working on other sources of staffing as well and we’re having some very cooperative conversations with some of the other providers in New South Wales, particularly those that have had a COVID outbreak so that we can take advantage of their experience.” The COVID-19 outbreak at the facility has resulted in the deaths of three residents and infected 44 others - 29 residents and 15 staff members.
