A huge repatriation operation is underway south of Sydney, as the virus-ridden Ruby Princess cruise ship prepares to leave Australian waters today.

Hundreds of passengers tested positive to COVID-19 and 21 people died from the virus after being allowed to disembark from the ship in March.

A Special Commission of inquiry into the fiasco – which has been described as one of the biggest public health failures in NSW history - will continue at 10am today.
