Cardinal George Pell has revealed he is ashamed of the Catholic Church for the way it dealt with the “cancer” of child sex abuse in the past. In an exclusive world-first televised interview with Sky News Australia presenter Andrew Bolt, Cardinal Pell talks candidly about the scourge of child abuse within his own church and how the many failures to act still haunt him today. “It was like a cancer … we had to cut it out,” he said.
“One of the things that aggrieves me is the suggestion that I’m anti-victim, or not sufficiently sympathetic. I devoted a lot of time and energy to try to save them, to get justice, to get help and to get compensation.” Cardinal Pell also shone light on the 405 days he spent locked up for seven child sex offences which were eventually quashed by the High Court of Australia.

I don’t believe him. He lacks credibility to such a degree I can’t even bring myself to give him the benefit of doubt. Lobby the Vatican to release their files on child raping priests and I may change my mind.

So many people are saying that Pell was complicit in moving pedophiles or allowing the abuse to happen. However, this is not at all true. It was his predecessors that did this. When Pell became Archbishop of Melbourne he sacked 20 priests and put an end to the abuse.

He ashamed? He should be. He set up & supported the widely condemned 1996 Melbourne Response to victims of child sex abuse by catholic clergy. Pell praised the prog in the face of criticism it failed families, silenced victims & served to limit the financial hit to the church.

Listening to this helps realise why all the cases brought against Cardinal Pell fell/will fall over. He just isn’t the type to commit these alleged crimes. In fact, the opposite is true. As for the fulminators hostile to him, he appears to pity them. They don’t concern him.
