The Irish Refugee Council (IRC) has been contacted by 85 healthcare workers living in Direct Provision who are looking to move out, reports fletchl

The Health Service Executive has confirmed that these asylum seekers can now apply for temporary accommodation under a scheme for healthcare workers.

However, many were only alerted to it when the Chief Operations Officer of the HSE, Anne O'Connor, tweeted about the scheme on Friday morning. Clíona Ní Cheallaigh, a consultant in Infectious Diseases in St James' Hospital, Dublin, has said that the current situation - where residents in Direct Provision centres, including healthcare workers, continue to share rooms and other living spaces - makes her "very anxious".

She works as a healthcare assistant in a nursing home, and said that since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak she has been trying to keep her distance from her fellow asylum seekers. Anne recently recovered from Covid-19. She doesn't know where she became infected, but as soon as she experienced symptoms she called her workplace to explain she couldn't attend, and hasn't returned since. Anne had to wait more than a week for her test results and in that time she had to share some facilities with other Direct Provision residents, including a bathroom and the shop where they collect their food.

She said it was a very stressful time. "There are vulnerable people in the [Direct Provision] centre... you might infect somebody and if somebody dies or something happens, then you would never forgive yourself, you know?" — Graham Clifford April 12, 2020 Before the HSE announced details of the temporary accommodation scheme for healthcare workers, a spokesperson for the Department of Justice and Equality told RTÉ News that it was "engaging with employers of residents working in the care industry regarding alternative accommodation, as and when an individual's needs are brought to our attention.

Ms Mwanza has since moved into single room accommodation with her own bathroom. "I'm so happy and I am still working," she said.

fletchl Hello! The door is open.

fletchl We can't even look after our own poor people ffs

fletchl If they've been assessed and are lingering here for appeals then ship them home asap. We don't want fraudsters clogging up our system, pushing wages down and putting our vulnerable at risk. The patience of the Irish people have been very tested by their ‘cock and bull’ stories.

fletchl Why can’t they pay for their own accommodation if they’re working? I’d love to have my rent and meals paid for and provided for whilst I work away.

fletchl They just want to dance

fletchl Surely LeoVaradkar will intervene and give these poor people what they demand . These “new Irish” will be his future voter base

fletchl Which nursing homes? In particular who owns these homes?

fletchl Wtf do illegals who have broken the law have jobs here instead of a plane home

fletchl

fletchl Deport!

fletchl Fake asylum seekers In full time work refuse to move out of the terrible conditions of DP Until they are given free houses Fixed it

fletchl Yeah I wouldn’t mind a new house either where do I apply

fletchl

fletchl Nope.

fletchl You all do realise they are actually working as healthcare workers right?

fletchl WTF are these illegals doing working ? Round them up and deport them in chains ! This is insane. Just get them out.

fletchl Why don't they get there only home ? DP is voluntary Suckling from the tit of the Irish taxpayers

fletchl The reason they’re in direct provision rather than processed already, is likely due to their asylum claims being found to be dubious. They are certainly not all refugees that’s for sure. Statistics and facts back that up.

fletchl Shrug.

fletchl Anyone can leave DP if they wish. They are earning a wage and there are places to rent. Why would they bother renting though.

fletchl These people should have proper accommodation shame on employers for not ensuring their safety

fletchl RTÉ

fletchl Will Charlie be making a statement? Or is he too busy sitting at home crying into the Union Jack? Charlie always hated Easter Sunday.

fletchl I'd say they fucking are...

fletchl Fuck FG. Users.

fletchl Hang on, we have thousands of Irish doctors flying home, on THEIR OWN money. Voluntarily. These are lovely people for every they do sure, but isn't it time we prioritized our own Irish doctors and incenticized them to come back home?

fletchl I hate fact the irish are doing this to refugees

fletchl Give them a free home.. they deserve more then travellers and little scumbags

fletchl They should have moved already.

fletchl Move them home

fletchl Therefore, 'why can't ALL in DP get a free house or accommodation'. Another one that will be snuck in along with surrender of civil liberties.
