National cabinet has begun planning for advanced coronavirus surveillance and tracking methods to take the place of tough social distancing measures

Professor Murphy said international travel remained a huge issue after a flight carrying up to 80 Australians with coronavirus from the Greg Mortimer cruise ship landed in Melbourne on Sunday morning.

"I think the Australian people are prepared for restrictions for as long as it takes, to be honest, because we have got to take the medical advice," Mr Frydenberg said on ABCHe said Singapore and Japan both thought they had great success with stopping coronavirus but have now seen a second wave of cases and Sweden, with half the population of Australia, had 10 times the number of deaths.

Education Minister Dan Tehan said the federal government wanted all schools to open for term two and has warned independent schools they risk losing federal funding if they do not provide classrooms for essential workers.

snowycats If they lift it too early & before the end of our flu season, the hospitals will be overwhelmed with everyone having cold or flu symptoms, thus losing track of the real threat. Wake up Australia & stop being a selfish bunch of little whiners... Sit it out & do the right thing.

It can take up to 25 days for the symptoms to manifest, plus another 25 to go through the sickness, during which it spreads around, even if it's mild. We need another 5 weeks at least to know if we contained the virus. Then we can relax a bit. But the borders must remain closed.

Australian of the year! Maintain your conservative approach.

As Mandy Rice-Davies famously said: 'he would say that, wouldn't he?'.

Why no mention of the man who committed suicide due to being quarantined in a hotel? “A man has been found dead in his hotel room during forced coronavirus quarantine. The recently returned traveller's body was discovered on Saturday inside a hotel room in Melbourne's CBD.“

Don't lives matter all lives matter !

Not all restrictions are of equal value guys. Many are trivial and are saving zero lives. More nuanced decisions needed.

What i wanna know is, when will be a right time to relax restrictions?..I dont think there will be a time that there wont be a risk. Without a vaccine (if its even a possibility) i think its something that will be with us that we will need to manage differently.

But then we can be hit with the flu epidemic ( which only recently killed up to 56,000 in the US). So best if we stay locked in forever. For our own safety of course.

Indeeed, it’s a marathon, not a sprint

A trial reset with smaller businesses in Regional Aust should be trialled within coming weeks. If this doesn't work, then we know the rest of the country isn't ready. There must be some hope given to Australians.

Experts have no idea what they are doing. If the end game is a vaccine Dictator Dan will keep us locked up for years.

After Easter is fine, thanks.

Full of shit - doing the politicians bidding !

There should be no reduction in restrictions.Once the government is certain that local transmission pockets are identified and quarantined then perhaps there can be a change.

Yeah because the virus is just magically going to go away 🙄

Yeah... I think we are all in agreement that they shouldn’t be lifted too early because .... that would be ... too early. Best if we lift them when it’s not too early 👍🏻

There he is

The virus is beaten now, people should be allowed out to do their normal business sometime this week.
