Australians have been urged to use their time in isolation to “binge” on studying as higher education providers around the nation slash the prices on short courses.

Education Minister Dan Tehan announced the package, which included funding for six-month courses, remotely delivered diplomas, and graduate certificates in nursing, teaching, health, IT and science. Mr Tehan said the scheme will allow out-of-work Australians to “make lemonade” and re-skill during the pandemic.

"What we want to do is provide an opportunity for all those people who have had their lives turned upside down by the coronavirus to re-skill or look at different career options,” he said. "That is why today we are announcing that we are slashing the prices of degrees and diplomas in short courses, to enable people, rather than bingeing on Netflix, to binge on studying, binge on looking at attention degree, looking at a nursing degree, and allied health degree.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄. Nothing will ever replace a real professional degree. Make sure you know that before learning from just any 'mc University.'

geoffrey_payne Long on promises but very short on detail. What are these courses? Who’s providing them? How much will they cost? Sounds like they haven’t even bothered to talk to Unis and colleges about providing these short courses yet?

They would be better off having an original thought to take back to school. That's what I call education.
