Official health advice remains to only wear a mask if you are ill. But the reality is many people are seeking protection, while others view them as a form of self-expression.

And yet, masks appear to be more in demand, and gradually more widespread. Major brands are pivoting. In Europe, Louis Vuitton has re-tooled several of its workrooms to make non-medical masks for aged care residents.

Sydney-based designer Nicholas Atgmesis recently made a pivot from making high-end bowties and ties to masks made with silks and satins.Atgmesis was returning from a buying trip in Italy when he realised the potential severity of COVID-19. "Italy got it right after Wuhan. I was getting nightly videos and updates from people. As soon as I got back in early February, I started making masks.

Better to wear a mask. Protects you when you subconsciously touch your face

To buy a newspaper or not is the real question!

Mask, anything to put a barrier btw people breathing out the virus and you. Remember, you can appear healthy and be contagious.

And for ppl who keeps saying you only wear a mask when you are infected - “Do you put on a condom because you have STDs or you want to protect yourself?” It’s a very simple logic. Wear a mask.

With almost everyone wears mask. Taiwan has 300ish cases and only 5 deaths. So yea, get a mask

Forget masks, you guys need the cone of silence.

We all have and seen others sneeze in the sun and saw little sparkling particles in the air. And have even hocked up a big fat green golly. I’m sure we have all met someone that speaks with vigor resulting in spit landing on ones face. I know what I prefer. But I’m no “expert”.

Australia cannot mask up because Chinese Australians and Chinese companies organised a massive Daigou operation which hoarded all Australian masks and PPE starting mid December. Government can’t ask to mask up because our masks are in CHINA

Wear masks for sure.

stupid looking mask

Australia, already believes in masking & gloving & social distancing, washing the hands thoroughly before & after everything & spraying the air with Glen 20 & discenfecting surfaces! Door knobs, phones, keyboards, car steering wheels etc.......

A fashion statement

just remember masks are bug catchers on both sides. if you touch them you can spread anything they have picked up so remove them by the tapes/elastic etc dispose of them appropriately and practice good hand hygiene. dont assume that if you wear one you are safe.

I mask in super market but not when I jog

Put the mask and you become a slave.

I’m a moist talker baby

No

We seem to have a cultural reluctance to wearing masks. Having lived in an area in Sydney where there's a high percentage of Chinese people living I've got used to meeting people wearing them not just recently. I'll wear one if I have to but it absolutely goes against the grain.

ridiculous.

Fashion masks LOL

Japan gov distributes linen masks to its citizens. Japanese also make their own masks. Masks can be fashionable as well as protective!

It's sour grapes. There's a shortage, so we're pretending to believe that what we can't have, can't be that good.

Can't help stupid !

A gag would look good on Kristina Keneally.

Amazing! A time return to face cover! Western countries were taunting on Muslim women but not now under coronavirus because they also covered faces!!! AuthorWGA-Amazon USA

i would wear surgical mask though too expensive.

I feel much more comfortable around people who wear masks. Especially at the shops. Its shows me they are responsible.

If the official health advice changes. We’re generally an obedient bunch.

😰where are the masks for sale? Hardly any protective mask available in Sydney. Stay at home. Be safe. Do social distancing, practice good hygiene.

Oh the idiocy.

The reason masks are not be recommended by Australian medics from the CMO down is for 1 reason alone - insufficient supplies masksformedics PPE

Your mask protects me My mask protects you No-brainer

The official health advice from the WHO is garbage and anyone with half a brain knows it. The WHO wants the virus to spread.

Just wear the damn masks for God's sake.
