Opposition leader Anthony Albanese said NRL clubs were allowed to begin making preparations to resume the competition weeks after it was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, however the season would not be going ahead without the approval of health officials.
She said it was also important that the season go ahead for the “well-being of the athletes” as well as for financial reasons as “a lot of these players aren’t on the multi-million contract that we suspect a lot them are on”. “You have got a lot of players on a one salary income that are definitely keen to get back out there and I think you could see that from the reports of all the players on their Instagram and Twitter accounts when that news was announced last week,” she said.
