"Today [Friday] we recorded 219 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number to 3,512 cases in 34 provinces," the ministry’s disease control and prevention director general, Achmad Yurianto, said at a press conference.Yurianto added that the country's death toll had risen by 26 fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths nationwide to 306. Another 30 patients have recuperated from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 282.
As the disease has reached every province of Indonesia, Yurianto encouraged regional leaders to submit a large-scale social distancing request to his ministry. "The government is providing a chance for all local administrations to request for PSBB in accordance with the current [procedures]," he said.
Jakarta, the epicentre of the outbreak in the country, has been the only province that has implemented PSBB measures following approval from the Health Ministry. The policy took effect on Friday and will be in place until April 23."We urge all Jakartans [to stay] at home, worship at home and carry out constructive activities at home," he said. - The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network
