We're in shutdown mode for now, but what comes next? Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is working on a plan to safely reopen the country.

. Redfield said that now, testing capacity is increasing daily and that he's encouraged to see that point-of-care tests that give results within minutes are starting to enter the market.

Next, Redfield said, America will need to scale up capacity for tracing the contacts of those who test positive."It is going to be critical," he said."We can't afford to have multiple community outbreaks that can spiral up into sustained community transmission — so it is going to be very aggressive, what I call 'block and tackle,' 'block and tackle.'"Given how laborious contact tracing is, that means bringing on a lot more people to do that work.

Redfield said it would be"premature" for him to specify how exactly the CDC will do this and how much staffing it plans to put in place. But he said an announcement will come in the near future."Obviously, if we're going to try to get this nation back to work shortly after the end of this month, we're far along in those planning processes as we speak," he said.

Spend all day in a doctor's office just for the simplest things and you think I'm coming in to get tested oh hell no I'm not spending all f****** day at the f****** doctor's office and then pay out my f****** ear and going bankrupt! f*** you.

Sooooo, you gonna do 'aggressive' contact tracing rather than testing?

But wanted to pull funding for testing?

How are you going to interview the dead?

If CDC is building a workforce of contact tracers, I urge them to look at our underrepresented minorities pre-health career students. They need both the exposure and income to become leaders in, and diversify the public health and healthcare workforces. SO... is CDC serious?

I would very much like to be on this task force. I wonder what needs to be done ✅ so I can help.

Good plan, after the fact. January would have been a good time to implement.

So yeah that's not creepy as shit.

Good. Now what does “ramp up “and “very aggressive “mean. Journalists need to get a lot better at getting specifics or getting the person to admit that there are not any.

Wow only five months late!

Yeah lmk when you have enough tests to do that

kkearns much more reasonable to lock everyone indoors 24/7 and later resort to mass graves 🙄

Lies, medical workers who know they have been exposed to infected patients are being told they must report to work. They are not even being tested, 2few tests. Which also means they are possibly spreading the virus thru other areas of the hospital, pharmacies and grocery stores.

Better review the 4th & 5th amendments in detail before jumping in.

Maybe we could also consider expanding testing and implementing antibody screening? Just for, ya know, data reasons.

🚨🚨🚨 'aggressive contact tracing' is not something I want the government to be doing. Dangerous precedent.

Working on a plan.... We’re months into this thing. It was predicted to eventually happen by anyone who knows viruses. For years.

'This is an excellent idea.' - January

They’re starting this now?

Took them a while... 🤬

How does one contract track without testing?

Good bye freedom

WTF? CDC is only NOW ramping up contact tracing?! Astounding INCOMPETENCE!☹️ We need: 1. Free proactive MASS testing; 2. Comprehensive contact tracing; 3. SELECTIVE isolation; 4. Better transmission prevention.

Good lands! You folks are out of your ever loving minds!

How can contact tracing (no matter how aggressive) effectively contain a virus that can be spread by people who are asymptomatic?

Another promise that can’t be kept. The Director might mean well but it’s too late to start tracing. This needed to be started months ago.

This makes no sense now tho does it?

About three months late to the party, but thanks. 🙄

What month is this?

Big brother?

I was negative on 3-26. Today is the first day of no fever and slight cough. I know it was a false negative. Would love to know how to get antibody test to confirm.

That's awesome. My state doesn't do contact tracing even now. I'm not sure DE has the people to 'ramp up'. I called DHSS about a man who claimed his wife was confirmed covid-19, out at the post office instead of quarantined at home w/her. 20 mins in line w/him, 12' away/no mask.

Again, a day late and a dollar short.

You can't contact trace if you're not testing everyone!!

So. Not able to do testing. But... We are going to aggressively track every single Covid victim and everyone they have come in contact with And every one they have come in contact with and... on and on. But nope. We don’t have the resources to do testing.

The medical control in my county is turning people away that have C-19 symptoms and want to be tested. 10 day turnaround time for those that are tested. How does the CDC trace sick people that aren’t tested or trace contacts in any meaningful way after they’ve had 10d to spread?

CDC needs to put out comprehensive guidelines on how people might move out of quarantine safely. It's time to think of next steps.

Cart before horse.

The Fire Dept is “...working on a plan” to find water so they can, eventually, begin to slow the wildfire that they had been warned about for months and has been raging for many weeks!

So there’s a plan, to make an aggressive plan, to track down months of information we should have been tracking already? GoodPlan

'Very Aggressive' or 'Very Invasive'? Trump will use it to hound his 'Enemies' in the name of public health.

Two and a half months ago might have been a better time to start this

Isn’t more “aggressive contact tracing” and less testing (by fed gov’t) a self-defeating exercise?

Pull together a task force of public health professionals and then get the hell out Redfield. The last thing we need is more Trump appointees making this catastrophe worse than they already have.

Too little too late.

Um, kinda late for that, no? CDCgov

isn’t that 3 months too late? i guess that’s the american way

How many months in are we already. Good luck with that. In the meantime, there are sick people who can’t even get tested.

Three months late.

Since this article came out 18 minutes ago, when did the government begin ramping up for the contact tracing? We are over three months into the pandemic… ⁉️

Contact tracing should have started with the very 1st COVID case. Doing this now seems like trying to use a bucket to bail water out of the Titanic. What about all the people who weren’t able to get tested but died from upper respiratory failure, pneumonia-like symptoms, etc?

Kinda late for that

We are two and a half months past our first case. This entire administration is an utter and absolute failure, and they've gutted our national response, including the CDC. Director Redfield should be ashamed of this flaccid response effort.

Don’t you need to test first? Where are the tests? My state has tested 1%, and only if you are already sick enough to go to the hospital.

South Korea has been impressive in good governance. While our executive branch is defunding testing. Without testing this plan can't start. See how South Korea did it.

The CDCgov also tells us nurses to wear bandanas. And to keep working if we’re sick, but not too sick 🤷‍♀️

But we can't get tested so how does such a plan work?

About time

Like an app on our phones to tack us everywhere?

Who believes this? I sure don’t! StopTheSpread

Great idea. Lets get it going now

How does this guy still have a job

Close the CDC

Fat chance.

Right. The same people who promised tens of millions of tests and delivered two. The incompetence of this administration is killing people so efficiently one wonders if it isn’t intentional.

Sounds trumpish. How aggressive will it actually be CDCDirector? The CDC is currently working to gain credibility/trust with the public, they have been caught with their pants down in a Trump circle-jerk. Get your act together CDCgov TrumpFailedAmerica

There's going to be a government app for that, right?

How about very aggressive testing first?

We need more testing

I don’t trust Robert Redfield at all. He keeps giving me Hugo Strange vibes.

Sounds like a waste of time

Why did they wait until now?

What could go wrong

We can’t even be tested in Broward county Florida Fort Lauderdale area and if we don’t have a fever or been around somebody from China. This is not right I was in the hospital 3 1/2 weeks with pneumonia and was never tested for the coronavirus.

They have said that before and they also said very aggressive beautiful testing. Does anyone believe anything they say?

Im just here to see the conspiracy theorist comments.

Good luck in contact tracing: 1 those who've already succumbed 2 those in ICU too impaired to participate

Too little, too late. When the history of this pandemic is finally told, Redfield will not come out well.

So much winning!

Sure! Ok! Very aggressive....🙄 not buying what you are dishing out and basing it on past experience!

Follow what South Korea is doing. Oh wait, we have a dummy in chief. The tracing problem isn't rocket science. Just put it together. CDCgov you guys are just as guilty as the president for bungling this pandemic response.

Good nazi separate mark and eliminate

They're all about to do something. Meanwhile in reality people are lining up for food. Americans are fucked.

Is that a C. Everett Koop tribute beard?

Here's hoping!

Here is your star

Federal funding for testing stops on Friday, it they arn't testing what good will that do?

The CDC Director is a clown who did nothing to prepare America.

Who told him to shave his mustache?

good. now come up with a plan to aggressively ramp up testing

WHEN

Just another thing that should have been happening 3 months ago

Someone is getting fired 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👨🏼‍🔬🔥

The horse already left the barn

And testing or none of this works.

If you all thought the post-911 TSA and Patriot Act were invasive and unconstitutional, get ready for a REAL privacy invasion. “Never let a good crisis go to waste!” —Congress, probably

CDC director doesn’t think his testing rollout was botched b/c they fixed it. Declares US can’t open up until contact tracing is dramatically beefed up but can’t give details of any plan b/c it’s premature. He’s had 3 months & still no plan. Incompetent.

PreAnteDiluvian I would have more confidence in a non-Amish wannabe.

CDC updates website to remove dosage guidance on drug touted by Georgia, Florida and TrumpThe CDC changed the language used to describe the guidelines for potential -- and controversial -- coronavirus therapeutics Tuesday. The updated guidance is shorter and no longer gives dosage information, details nor studies about the drug. It's only controversial because our President supports the use of it and you losers on the left/cnn hate him so much you would rather see people die than give it a shot. OH, DOES EVERYONE KNOW - THE SQUATTER IN THE W.H. IS PROFITING OFF THIS DRUG. THIS IS ILLEGAL (BUT WITH HIM - WHAT ELSE IS NEW?) ALSO, NOW WE ARE GOING TO HAVE M O R E PEOPLE KILLING THEMSELVES ON THIS DRUG. 'but he stressed the importance of doing clinical trials alongside use of the drug.' Isn't that happening? Seems you buried the lede at the very end.
