“Let’s not break the food supply chain. If one part of it is distorted, the food supply will be affected. So, let’s not hamper the movement of food supplies and normal trade should be maintained,” Agriculture Secretary William Dar said in a statement. While the DA appreciates the initiatives of LGUs to procure produce directly from farmers for their constituents, Dar suggests that they limit their procurement of rice to what is required by their respective area.
The Agriculture chief also said the National Food Authority would continue to secure whatever local farmers and cooperatives harvest, and step up milling operations to maintain the ideal rice buffer stock level.
