Carlson, Hume and others have floated the theory that the death toll count is being inflated by including people with preexisting conditions. Health officials disagree.

have suggested the coronavirus death toll, which stood at 15,000 in the U.S. and over 90,000 worldwide on Thursday, is too high because it includes the deaths of those already sick to begin with.

“Well, it seems entirely possible that doctors are classifying conventional pneumonia deaths as COVID-19 deaths,” Carlson said on his talk show Tuesday, adding “that would mean this epidemic is being credited for thousands of deaths that would have occurred if the virus never appeared here” ., saying that even though the virus is “particularly damaging” for people with preexisting conditions, their “underlying condition did not cause [their death]” — the coronavirus did.

Fauci, following up on Birx’s comments, was more critical of conspiracy theories in general: “You will always have conspiracy theories when you have a very challenging public health crises. They are nothing but distractions.” For months, allies of President Trump in conservative media have downplayed the coronavirus outbreak and suggested some are using it as a “political weapon” against the president, as Fox News’ Sean Hannity

STUPIDITY of this is amazing... if the scale is long enough, we ALL die; coronavirus most especially attacks those with pre-existing conditions... IF not controlled, this disease OVERWHELMS the medical system look at France. OTHERS will avoid medical assistance for FEAR of it.

CDC knows better than Hopkins University, why is Hopkins publishing most of these results?

Down play it 👍 that’s a good idea... complacency is always a good idea...

The experts have been saying those w/ underlying conditions are more at risk the entire time. This is just spin on that to downplay the seriousness of this Virus & get inline w/ the WH propaganda of “no big deal”. Disgusted. Who raised these people? 😡

They've been way underinflated

Weird all the pneumonia deaths just disappeared

This headline advances Fox News and their bullshit conspiracy theories. Well done, Forbes.

Absurd conspiracy.

There's a huge comorbidity factor in the deaths. That's probably the better way of putting it. People are dying of COVID and something else. They have the same issue in assessing flu deaths, so many patients already have serious conditions and and the flu is the final straw.

Yes they are.

The way Fox News sees it if someone with cancer dies in a house fire they likely died from the cancer.

ElectricCoinCo 🚀

It’s not a conspiracy theory the legendary John Ioannidis also supports the view that numerator is not accurate due to the commorbidities

They are inflated and not because of Fox News “conspiracy” but due to vague and indefinitive guidelines given by Medicare.

Today Inflated, tomorrow deflated We are tired😔😔
