A senior, largely unrecognised, health bureaucrat has become the public face of the unprecedented threat facing the health of many Australians | JewelTopsfield

In less than two months, Brendan Murphy, a senior, largely unrecognised, health bureaucrat has become the public face of the unprecedented threat facing the health of many Australians.

Mr Hunt called the Prime Minister. “Brendan is just unbelievably frank, which is why the PM and I trust him completely,” Mr Hunt says. “We all took a deep breath. The PM said convene the board of chief health officers.” “It’s heartening to see politicians standing by expert advice and making decisions based on the best assessment and evidence and application to Australia.”Credit:But others have been less sanguine. Thousands of doctors have signed petitions calling for more drastic lockdown measures including the closure of schools to avoid the calamity experienced in Italy.

The dissent led Australia’s peak medical and public health organisations to warn conflicting advice from some health commentators was contributing to public uncertainty. Commissioner Fitzsimmons was considered an exemplar of leadership during one of Australia's worst bushfires on record, fronting media outlets with a calm, cut-through message.

"There's been quite a lot of commentary about them but, by all means, have a crack at politicians. We're used to it. We have broad shoulders," Mr Morrison said. "But I would ask you to support them. You can rely on them. I would ask you to rely on the decisions we're making." Dr Duckett believes Professor Murphy has made some good calls, such as the China travel restrictions, but has also made mistakes. He said the government was slow to impose a ban on travel from Italy, for example.“But ideally Australia would have an independent public health agency nationally which can make some of these decisions and provide single unified leadership in this area.”

JewelTopsfield To slow!

JewelTopsfield Sorry Brendan, I’ll be taking my advice from Norman Swan

JewelTopsfield Politicians .... not a doc! God save us!

JewelTopsfield This guy was not honest, knowledgeable, caring, intelligent or passionate while being interviewed... Bureaucrat playing politics is all he is.

JewelTopsfield Thank goodness the LNP have not yet got rid of all our public servants

JewelTopsfield He’s the one who 2 weeks ago told us to stock up on food and created the panic and has no policy to stop 2500 people to disembark a ship in Sydney with Covid 19 on board. He needs to be replaced and quickly normanswan (a man who talks sense) gets my vote.

JewelTopsfield Do you trust the medical expert advice keeping ‘low risk’ schools open Same ‘experts’ allowed low risk PrincessRuby ship to dock in Sydney & disembark yesterday, before discovering covid19 passengers NSWHealth trying to contact & isolate all 2700 passengers coronavirusaus

JewelTopsfield Why does the govt have so little faith in our youth to do the right thing and their parents? Why do they just presume kids will be ‘down the mall’ etc? If everyone was honest, open about what’s happening, the boundaries needed.., families will understand the risk.

JewelTopsfield He’s fucking it up.

JewelTopsfield

JewelTopsfield This guy is a puppet that loves nothing more than having his strings pulled by ScottMorrisonMP. He's completely out of touch with reality. Wonder what we'd find out if we asked any former colleagues what they thought of him?

JewelTopsfield In 6 months or a year from now, when all of this is over, we will recognize many heroes, Brendan Murphy will not be one of them.

JewelTopsfield He’s been pathetic. Soft.

JewelTopsfield What is the unprecedented threat, come on will all you parrots stop saying that and ask if it is actually true. The entire number of cases in Aus. today would just about fill Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island

JewelTopsfield This statement is criminal: Professor Murphy said ... there had been very few reports of symptomatic infection in children and while they might spread it in schools “it also creates a herd immunity” as risk to parents, grandparents and older relatives of the kids is enormous

JewelTopsfield Imperial College “We predict that school and university closure ... when combined with population-wide social distancing ... further amplify the breaking of social contacts between households, and thus supress transmission.”

JewelTopsfield As it should be. He is the expert not media personalities.

JewelTopsfield Murphy's Law seems more compliant Yes Minister YES MASTER I agree with what ever you say contradictions bounce in every interview Minister to C.M.O. to Prime Muppet back to Beaker Swedish Chef top curry cooking the books & back to miss Piggy in the trough

JewelTopsfield Truth be told, I’m starting to wish it was RFSCommissioner who was both in charge and communicating to the people.

JewelTopsfield And probably not doing a great job at it

JewelTopsfield It’s the guy who said “we are incredibly well prepared for the virus” couple of weeks ago.

JewelTopsfield Isn’t he responsible for letting that cruise ship into Sydney without waiting for test results from sick passengers?

JewelTopsfield He’s one of the faces, the PM and Hunt are also doing great work.

JewelTopsfield He was going along nicely til retirement, then accepted Moronson's offer to top up his super as head of Health, then bang CoronaVirus hit

JewelTopsfield Go to Bondi Beach and check out the boats....you are trying to defend incompetent murdering swine.
