The medical and public health communities have rallied around Brendan Murphy amid criticism the official advice has been too timid, slow and badly communicated.

Australia's peak medical and public health associations have backed the chief medical officer advising the government on the coronavirus pandemic, saying conflicting advice from some medical commentators was contributing to public uncertainty about the response.

"In times of bushfires we did not second guess the advice of the chief fire and emergency services commissioner. In times of public health emergency, we should not be second guessing the chief medical officer," the email to members said.he was worried "a variety of sources" were undermining public health officials' advice to government and creating panic, arguing "there's a level of expertise and understanding" needed to give the best advice.

Tania Sorrell, director of the Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity, said high-profile commentators such as Dr Swan, who is not an epidemiologist, should be careful with their comments.

maybe if he didnt just promote Morrisons incorrect info earlier and actually acted on advice from the World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) there might be more trust.

Oh puleeaazzee! The guy is towing the political line!

The government's actions are not working. Positive case numbers doubling every 3.5 days would say they are failing, so it's right to call them out.

Thirty per cent of health workers will be affected by school closures: Health Minister | Sky News AustraliaFederal Education Minister Dan Tehan says there are “two main reasons” why the government has received and acted on the advice to keep schools open.\n\nAccording to advice from the Chief Medical Officers, Australia needs “our health workforce in place” and if the decision was made to close schools, “it could impact 30 per cent of our health workers,” the minister said.\n\n“That would have huge implications on our ability to be able to deal with the spread of the coronavirus in this country”.\n\nMr Tehan said the second reason the government is acting on this advice is because if “children are at home often parents, because they’ve got to work, need to get other people” to look after their children.\n\n“Often that has to be grandparents … and other elderly and that puts them at greater risk”.\n\nHe told Sky News host Peta Credlin Singapore, which is “often held up as a gold standard example, have kept their schools open,” and at this stage keeping them open is the “best medical advice”.\n\nImage: Getty While I understand this is an issue, what happens when the children transmit the virus to their parents who could be health workers? What happens when they aid the spreading of the virus creating more and more cases? What about the health of teachers, staff and their families? Great. Those health workers will be able to treat all of the infected educators....... I guess the younger educators may at least fit into the ‘best chance of survival category’ That point doesn't have a stand. 30%workforce compare with 50%spread chance and exponential growth patient.
