The health minister's comments have fallen in line with those of Angela Merkel in Germany, and others in Europe.

Health minister Zweli Mkhize can be seen during a press briefing on updates on the coronavirus in South Africa at the Civitas building is Pretoria CBD, 9 March 2020. Picture: Jacques Nelles

Mkhize told the doctors that 60% to 70% of South Africa are likely to contract the virus, though hopefully over a more extended period of time than would happen if containment measures were not in place. The expert consensus has been that a vaccine or might only be available by sometime next year, though an effective treatment is likely to come far earlier; the tactic of having people self-quarantine and keep their distance from each other is to ensure that citizens don’t all get the illness at the same time, thereby overwhelming the health system’s capacity and ability to deal with infections and treatment, popularly known as “flattening the curve”.

At this meeting, the private laboratories expressed their commitment and willingness to “work hand in hand with government to perform the tests”. “The MEC is feeling strong and has not exhibited any symptoms. She is now waiting to receive her results that will determine her way forward. We wish her well as we know that she has been criss-crossing the Western Cape province to ensure the state of preparedness of our health facilities for Covid-19 patients requiring admission.

“In addition, the NICD will conduct testing on routine surveillance samples to monitor the possible spread of Covid-19 across the country. Sequencing of early isolates of SARS-CoV-2 is under way and this information will be shared as soon possible.”Ramaphosa’s announcement

It's about the imposition of the vaccine on the populace, not health

The flip side of the CoronavirusInSA, with most on sick leave is that businesses will be compelled to employ casual workers to sustain productivity. Accordingly this will help to have more people employed. Worse case will be high levels of depression & suicide, as an aftermath.

As long as you still u have the airport opened and not closed like they said we all likely to get it...

We are ready for COVID-19 se voet.

What, this is scary mos?

He wanted to say two-third of white SA but the ANC doesn't want to irritate its handlers.

Around 95% or more of the people who get it will survive and symptoms are generally mild and far from scary. But what is scary is how fast it spreads. And there are too many unknowns about the disease [via Forbes]

He has no plan of fighting corona we are left with Washing hands

We were serious about nationalising hospitals.

So now we must panic?

And government is clamping down on news guaranteed to cause panic 🤬 How many of those will get the low-impact strain ? How many will require hospitalisation ? Idiots.

themankhosi Those who are determined to be the remaining one third raise your hands ✋🏿. Good, let’s go wash 🧼 hands social distance and behave better 😷😷. StayAtHomeChallenge Covid19SA StopTheSpread

Don't panic they said. Ways your hands regularly they said

That doesn't inspire any confidence on your handle on this thing 🤔

We are being deflected i still say. The government will never tell you the truth

themankhosi Is government ready to say panic now. We always wait for things to get worse before getting better, I'm really puzzled, the guy from KZN was declared Coronavirus free yet the numbers keep rising, I thought they should be declining or remaining stagnant with every treated patient

I agree ..some of the weak will get attacked ..remember how many of our people are still HIV... specially in our township ..

Did he also tell the nation how are they planning to reduce that number instead of telling us to wash our hands as if we havnt been washing them.

What are they doing to prevent this. So we should just accept.

Who gains from this fear mongering? Get real. 150 infected with mild flu symptoms. Fatality rate below 3%. 30.000 die in road accidents every year and nobody calls for the prohibition of all driving and all motor cars. RESIST THE HYSTERICS AND AVOID THE COLLAPSE OF THE ECONOMY!

Starting to sound biblical

Him included😔😔😔

It's either he is a realist or a pessimist....!!Jow does he know this? Does the government know something we don't ?🤔

Terrible

This guy said people should stop spreading fake news and he goes to give them a platform... New Dawn🤦‍♂️

He means business: is he going to spread the corona himself or what?

You are not God

Fake news , please check disaster management act and see what will happen to you if you spread lies

Whaaaat?

mukelaniey This is false news... He said 'Affected' not infected

MasechabaNdlovu was right

That’s absurd unless they infect the population

looks like he'll be leadin by example

Will he going to inject it to us?

That's 66,67% of the country

UngowakwaMkhize ngempela lomuntu ikhanda alisebenzi
