FULL SPEECH: Prime Minister Scott Morrison has urged Australians “to get on with their lives” as the government unveils a raft of tough new restrictions aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus. From midnight tonight all travellers arriving from overseas will be forced to self-isolate for 14 days. The Prime Minister confirmed there will be penalties for non-compliance, although the severity of the offence will be up to the states.
Mr Morrison confirmed Anzac Day events may be cancelled in order to stop the spread of the disease. At least 250 Australians have contracted the novel coronavirus COVID-19, while more than 150,000 people across the world have been infected. In addiction to the new restrictions, the Prime Minister also urged all Australians to practice self-isolating measures including avoiding shaking hands with other people.

ScottMorrisonMP In the gov website there is a distinction between “self isolate (confirmed COVID19) cases” and “self quarantine (suspect cases)”. PM is saying “self isolate” implies all arrivals from Sunday midnight 16 March are treated as CONFIRMED CASES. Some clarification is required here.

ScottMorrisonMP It's too late the virus is already here, containment has failed and we need to lockdown now! We're in the mitigation phase and our only option is to lockdown for 2 weeks. Each day that passes is 1000's of lives needlessly gone.
