The states have agreed to evenly split the expected $1 billion public healthcare costs of the coronavirus pandemic with the federal government.
Government sources said agreement on a national health response to the crisis had been reached at a meeting between Prime Minister Scott Morrison, premiers and chief ministers in Sydney on Friday morning. Prime Minister Scott Morrison greets NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian ahead of the COAG meeting in Parramatta on Friday morning."Today we will be in a position to finalise the health agreement on responding to the coronavirus," Mr Morrison said ahead of the meeting. "I want to thank all the states and territories for their strong partnership in coming to agreement on that.
"We would be very happy to shoulder those costs 50-50 with the states, because of the serious nature and very specific nature of this virus," Mr Morrison said on March 6.of public health measures to fight the virus, including up to 100 pop-up respiratory clinics, subsidised video-link consultations and a targeted public health campaign.
