Deputy Speaker and Camarines Sur 2nd district Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte said on Saturday night that the local transmission of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) in the country should prod companies to consider telecommuting for their employees.

He expressed his support for President Duterte’s decision to declare a State of Public Health Emergency.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador S. Panelo said President Duterte “has agreed” with the DOH’s recommendation to declare a state of public health emergency “after considering all critical factors with the aim of safeguarding the health of the Filipino public.” “Allowing our people to do their jobs in the safety of their homes would go a long way in helping prevent the spread of this virus among our workers,” he said.

“Our companies can consider work-at-home arrangements in support of Republic Act No. 11164 or the Telecommuting Act, which I had authored,” he said.
