Drugs for the coronavirus are still in the research phase and treatments differ from country to country. So how are medical officials working to contain the Covid-19 spread?

In the two months since coronavirus first made headlines across the globe, 79 countries have reported more than 95,000 cases and 3,280 deaths. The NSW Department of Health says there is no need to be tested for Covid-19 unless you develop fever, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath or other symptoms and have traveled to mainland China, Iran or any other country of risk.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Paul Kelly said a drug used to treat HIV, remdesivir, is undergoing clinical trials to combat the coronavirus.“At the moment there is no evidence whether it works or it doesn’t it is still in that experimental phase,” Dr Kelly said. The process by which people are tested is similar to that of the flu, a saliva swab is taken and patients who have a particularly heavy cough may be asked to provide a sputum sample.EPA

The researchers claim that if not for the country's swift response, there would be three times as many cases worldwide.

Medical staff shortages expected for virus that 'can't be contained'Two Sydney doctors infected with coronavirus attended the same conference with more than 70 other attendees, as health authorities warn the virus cannot be contained | rachelclun kaubo rachelclun Kaubo Containment is no longer possible? No shit, Sherlock. Why didn't you close the borders ScottMorrisonMP when you had the chance? With the virus now spreading uncontrollably, the economic impact will be far worse than losing a few tourist $$$. Utter incompetence, as per usual. rachelclun Kaubo I’d feel better if I was hearing they were doing more to ‘contain’ it such as completely stopping travellers from ‘hot spots’. No bringing in plane loads of high school students etc. And these ‘self isolation’ rules sound ridiculous! The authorities need to GET REAL SERIOUS! rachelclun Kaubo They are constantly behind the game. Waiting to see what virus will do before reacting. This group of doctors were the most senior doctors that run night shifts in ED. They were preparing for exams. Now a huge cohort is potentially contaminated. From EVERY HOSPITAL IN SYDNEY.

Licking shrines, freeing prisoners, threatening doctors: Iran's chaotic coronavirus responseCoronavirus appears to be sweeping through Iran, but with the regime warning health officials to stay quiet, we may never know the true scale of the outbreak, writes Eric Tlozek. You really do need to look at the USA response to find a story about how unco a Govt response to this issue is. So, what are we doing now to prevent same thing happening here? This is where a society built around a belief in god ends up - in systemic denial and frenzied prayer. And it creeps. Keep religion away of the administration of Australia. morrisane
