Coronavirus in Nigeria – Federal govt confirms [Full statement]

The Federal Ministry of Health confirmed the positive test of coronavirus in Nigeria, Friday morning, in a statement signed by Dr Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health.

He was confirmed by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control . It noted that the multi-sectoral Coronavirus Preparedness Group led by the NCDC has immediately activated its national Emergency Operations Centre and will work closely with Lagos State Health authorities to respond to this case and implement firm control measures.

“Please be reminded that most people who become infected may experience only mild illness and recover easily, but it can be more severe in others, particularly the elderly and persons with other underlying chronic illnesses. “Make sure you and people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene, meaning cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or into your sleeve at the bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Which airline brought the Italian man into Nigeria? Who cleared him through the airport? The persons who boarded plane with him where are they now? What are we doing with our research on such diseases or do we depend on foreign findings? Our data management team should step up.

God help us 😢

God help us

Was he detected from the airport? How come he was in LUTH? What about his driver.? What about all those in the same airline? May Allah protect us all from d evil coronavirus.

We shall overcome!

God help us

It's unfortunate that the fast killing disease is here in Nigeria under a regime that is too fond of giving very unnecessary & unbecoming excuses. I pray they rise to the occasion. Please, tell the Minister that the disease broke out in December 2019, not 2020, hence Covid-19.

So its here....now the drama begins.

God help us
