WHO’s conflicting statements could spread fear in fight vs Covid-19

Then on Thursday, WHO, speaking through its representative to the Philippines Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe, declared that the coronavirus disease 2019 was still not considered a pandemic.

We think it’s important to get the terminology right and precise in describing the Covid-19 and its threats. WHO on Tuesday reported that the number of new cases outside China exceeded the number of new infections inside the country for the first time. In Europe, where Germany, France and Spain were among the places with a growing caseload, an expanding cluster of more than 440 cases in northern Italy was eyed as a source for transmissions.

And in the United States, which has 60 cases, President Donald Trump declared that the country was “very, very ready” for whatever threat the coronavirus brings.
