The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on Thursday (Feb. 6) reminded hospitals to accept all persons suspected to be infected with the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

In an advisory, PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer retired Brig. Gen. Ricardo Morales said all accredited Levels 2 to 3 hospitals — those expected to have the capacity to perform quarantine and manage infectious diseases — “are hereby directed to accept all persons under investigation for 2019 n-CoV for assessment and appropriate management.”

“Refusal to provide care to said patients shall be considered a violation of the signed Performance Commitment and shall be dealt with by the Corporation accordingly,” he warned. Morales said Philhealth has been working with the Department of Health and other concerned agencies “to ensure that all Filipinos are protected from risks brought about by this emerging disease.”

“As important as the provision of appropriate medical care to confirmed cases is being able to break the infection chain through medical quarantine of suspected cases,” he added.
