BEIJING/SHANGHAI - A state-run Chinese research institute has applied for a patent on the use of Gilead Sciences’ experimental U.S. antiviral drug, which scientists think could provide treatment for the coronavirus that has killed hundreds and infected thousands.

The Wuhan Institute of Virology of the China Academy of Sciences, based in the city where the outbreak is believed to have originated, said in a statement on Tuesday it applied to patent the use of Remdesivir, an antiviral drug developed by Gilead , to treat the virus. The application was submitted jointly with the Military Medicine Institute of the People’s Liberation Army Academy of Military Science, according to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

realDonaldTrump : Hail Xi Jin Ping !! Hail CCP !!

Thieves the CCP

It is a shame, but will all play out legally at some point. The important part is that Gilead and their CEO are behind helping patients first, not talking legal action. And it’s good to see they are able to successfully use remdesivir to treat the coronavirus, without approval.

Seriously? This is getting ridiculous. WTH is really going on?

realDonaldTrump stop China from stealing US intellectual property! Or change the laws to selectively protect China’s intellectual rights.

Let the bullet fly a while. Time will tell us what happened in the shadow.

Evil China and CCP spread the virus to the whole world antichinazi BoycottChina WARS

YOU 👏 CAN’T 👏 MAKE 👏 THIS 👏 SHIT 👏 UP 👏

Evil CCP is so shameless! The free world should not provide any assistance to this selfish and shameless regime!

How shameless China is. It brings the world the coronavirus, and attempts to monopolize cures invented by others. China does not deserve any help. WuhanCoronavirus

Ha! China doesn't care about its face anymore? Let's see how it goes after the outbreak.

Speechless. Shame on china coronavirus

mranti Shame Shame Shame Shame Shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why China needs the US?

Shameless

POTUS should punish CCP already within & beyond the terms of the chinatradedeal! How does he MAGA when these scums rub this in his face?

shiroihamusan a new low of the Communist Party of China

Money (of CCP members) is above human lives Common sense in China

Shame on China! Unbelievable!

Evil

mranti Being a Chinese myself, it was utterly surprising and embarrassing to have heard something like this. There’s absolutely no reason for filing patent application while the whole world is trying to help, not to mention this treatment belongs to someone else. China need to change.

Usual behavior of Chinese-pay no respect to intellectual property, stealing and copying, being unthankful..😪

Dorthonion_Car Smoke and mirrors? Think about it for a minute.

Typical China stuff. I am not surprised, but feel ridiculous.

Perfect example of what happens after you helped China

World, China is asking for a sanction. U guys heard it right?

then they will buy out WTO and have them said this is okay. WHO

And China still has the decency to ask for foreign aid. Deplorable.

Is this a new way to steal intellectual property? Or, to figure out how to make a new super virus - one that can't be cured?

Not even with a thank you note

There are more problems. China sells the drug at a far higher price. And the people infected by the virus in other countries simply may need to pay quite a lot to get the drug. What a shame, when china receives aid, it focuses on own interest, putting others' lives at risk.

This just shows you how ungrateful and ridiculous CCP is. Bite the hand that feeds them. So now what, US has to pay China to use the drug for the virus? Total lack of respect to intellectual rights. CCP seems to forget 2nd phase of trade negotiations just started. Good luck, Xi.

Pro tip It doesn't work

Of course!!! It has to be perceived as CPP's OWN 'miracle' and 'R&D' (to be sold internally as such), instead of Capitalist US's prowess... If not, their red-Communist tuxedo would look stained..

AmyJaffeenergy

it appears 🇨🇳 China is unthankful & selfish

SUE THEM RIGHT AWAY!

Always about the profits.

Chinafuckedcoronavirus

Always trying to make a buck......

Not too suspicious...🤔

Wtf

Wtf

We want a cure vacin, not one that is showing improvement.

the shame of them.

This would have been way worse if the TPP deal would have passed. It covered IP rights for ideas.

Wow It’s a mistake

There is doubt whether the virus came their lab, now they getting the patent. The govt is expected to earn big bucks out of it.

lookner

Waahhh. Why would they do that China released the virus so treatment should be free and for all
