Health Secretary Francisco Duque III made the announcement in a press briefing on Monday, barely a day after the first confirmed death caused by nCoV ARD was reported.
The health secretary said that out of the 80 PUIs, 10 have already been sent home, while 67 are now placed in isolation in several hospitals. The 44-year-old Chinese male from Wuhan China was actually the second nCoV ARD in the country. He was the companion of 38-year-old woman, also from Wuhan China who was the first to test positive for nCoV ARD infection.
“Both patients are from Wuhan, China and arrived in the Philippines via Hong Kong last January 21, 2020. The second confirmed case was admitted for pneumonia last January 25, 2020 after experiencing fever, cough, and sore throat,” said Duque. “Over the course of the patient’s admission, he developed severe pneumonia due to viral and bacterial infections. In his last few days, the patient was stable and showed signs of improvement. However, the condition of the patient deteriorated within his last 24 hours resulting in his demise,” he added.
Patients are not UNDER INVESTIGATION, patients are UNDER OBSERVATION for coronavirus
