The first group of Australians evacuated from the Chinese city of Wuhan have landed on home soil.

The Qantas flight touched down at an Exmouth airbase in Western Australia. Passengers are now undergoing medical checks before they'll be flown to Christmas Island on two, smaller government planes. Foreign Minister Marise Payne says the first cohort will be isolated for at least two weeks before they can return home.

Dozens of Australians trapped in China from the coronavirus outbreak will also be sent to New Zealand under an agreement struck with the Ardern government. The Australian residents will join 70 New Zealanders on a flight today under the agreement. They will then be quarantined on a military base outside Auckland or transferred to Christmas Island.
