Plan for street trials poses serious threat to health, experts warn

Ministers need to spend billions of pounds to improve the road network if they want to avoid a public safety crisis brought about by the legalisation of e-scooters, it has been claimed.

Maybe we should ban cars. They are far more dangerous.

How will those small diameter wheels cope with the potholes and generally rubbish surfaces in the UK?

God bless your righteous concern! How else can we get out the message that eScooter riders will undoubtedly kill pedestrians and themselves the likes we’ve never seen with any other transportation option ever invented.

stgeorgeiscross Do you want fewer cars or not? People have to get around somehow when on foot is too slow

With acid attacks, bag snatching, stabbing and muggings, on the rise, why would the government want to make it even easier for the criminals out there to make the lives of the decent citizens, more unsafe and miserable.

As will the riders of e-scooters! Daft fad ,(which hopefully won't last) and a stupid idea to have these on a busy road!!

They currently face serious danger from road users on a daily basis... How did they ever get approval?

They currently operate safety in other places along with bikes. It is the inconsiderate/dangerous rider that is the issue. Equally yet another item to be stealth taxed and over policed. Other cities in Europe have better infrastructure to accommodate various modes of transport!

Walking in London becoming more adventurous. Pavements being used to dump signs saying the road is closed, electric bikes dumped at random, cyclists on pavements (often to avoid the closed road), disabled scooters, and now e-scooters. Becoming safer to walk in the road.

Deja Vu When the first steam engine locomotive rolled onto the railway tracks.!! I ain't too young not to remember.!!

There is already a huge problem with bikes on pavements. I have had cyclists racing along behind me shouting to get out of their way. Another time a cyclist was coming towards me at night with no lights. Detest them.

I don’t hear properly and can’t hear bikes , scooters etc coming up behind me . Already bikes on pavements and canal paths pose a risk to pedestrians. Pavements should be a safe space to walk

Where’s the quote from? Can’t find it in the piece which says the opposite - escooters are danger on pavements & need segregated lanes on roads, like cyclists, to be safe. Please look at this GdnReadersEd

Nearly 28,000 killed or seriously injured by cars in 2019 but sure, scooters are the problem

Can understand a scooter is eco friendly - but seriously using them on public roads or worse pavements is lunacy. However, I don't see an alternative way of using them that would be a safe means of transport.

Like they don't face danger from exhaust fumes already. One e-scooter equals one less carbon monoxide spewing mechanical dragon.

A common sight

They face danger on pavements so no difference.

Law-breaking cyclists are the problem and will remain so, particularly the men. In London, Spandex-clad inadequates from the provinces, a plague of sheathed penises, pose unwarranted hazards. Go back to the country lanes where you learned to cycle; give the rest of us a break.

I’d rather get run over by an e-scooter than a car.

... in my country. All of the escooter 'dangers' are stupid!

Misleading title with stupid excuses in front. the only danger is for car makers and other fuel vehicle makers! Wake up people. I use e- scooter, normal bike, normal car, I walk a lot, i have small kids and im a civil engineer participate in most important traffic studies....

'...e-scooters in Britain have existed in a limbo – available for purchase on the high street but illegal to ride on both pavements and roads...' Not really, 'limbo' - illegal or just for private places ! Lots of people taking the risk on the roads though !

We need pedestrian only areas please

We had e-scooters in Portland Oregon. 50 were fished out of the Willamette River.

Go electric for the environment. *terms and conditions apply

Are non-e scooters okay, though?

Much less danger than from bikes (which have been on the roads since their invention!
