PAGOH: The Home Ministry is ready to expand a travel ban if the need arises after the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the coronavirus outbreak as a global health emergency.

Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that at the moment, the ban only applies to travellers from Wuhan and areas around the Hubei province in China.

"We have a committee overseeing the situation that is led by the Health Minister and they will look into the issue and decide. "If the committee sees that there is a need to expand the ban and it is approved by the Cabinet, then we will take immediate action but for now, the status remains the same," he said.

He said this to reporters after attending a meeting with Pagoh division Srikandi and Armada here on Friday . He said this when asked to comment on the public health emergency declaration by the WHO on the coronavirus.Article type: free
