GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Health Department has quashed yet another rumour regarding the novel coronavirus infection in the state.

In its Facebook post on Tuesday , the department said that claims of a positive case had been detected at Tropicana 218 Macalister apartment were not true."Don't viral this kind of message in the future," said the post.that the patient infected with the virus was from China, and had been admitted to a private hospital.When contacted, Tropicana 218 Macalister Property Management complex manager Jason Lim said the news is false.

"What actually happened is that the health authorities are looking for a female Chinese tourist who went to a private medical hospital for a check-up on Monday . "She, however, did not provide a proper address to the hospital, however with some help, we managed to find her," he said. Lim said after a check-up and interview, doctors at the private hospital found no symptoms indicating that the patient had contracted the virus.

On Monday, the state health department refuted claims that there were cases of the novel coronavirus in the state after a viral message claiming that two people who visited Thailand had been admitted to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for being suspected of contracting the disease.
