A lobby group is set to launch legal action against the Australian government over a 2001 law change that it claims treats 250,000 New Zealanders who live here as second-class citizens.
And there is no simple pathway to citizenship, which Mr Faulkner said is"very unfair" and"un-Australian". New Zealanders on the visa are able to access certain government services but are blocked from others, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme . "Hundreds of New Zealanders have given initial support that they will join the class action, certainly enough that we will go to the next step … [And we're] in the process of selecting a law firm to handle the class action."
Brought it on yourselves. NZ immigration allows Pacific Islanders NZ recognition then they come to Australia. Then you have the whole backdoor Indian (sub continent) system where they immigrate to NZ then once they have a NZ passport move to Australia. Fix yours first.
Go Home
Isn't it a trade off for the relaxed entry requirements for NZ- ers compared to what other migrants must go through to get here?
what the? what what what? complaining over another countries laws? errrmmm feel free to go over the ocean at anytime.
It’s not discrimination. A kiwi in NZ applying to migrate and become a citizen goes through EXACTLY the same process as anyone else. It’s only different if they are here already on a special category visa, the citizens of no other country are entitled to
honestly considering all that's happened since howard if I were from NZ I'd move back anyway, the only thing that's better here are the prices of certain things... That and we have trains... it's pretty much the only semi-functioning network we have here...
These comments are so disappointing. This class action is a good thing and if we don't win I hope it sparks the conversation that needs to be had. 🤞
'Unfair' right...
“It’s racially discriminatory” New Zealander is not a race. If they do not apply for permanent residency or citizenship they do not deserve the same benefits as Australians.
I was moved to Aus when I was 6, I've lived here and called it home my whole life. But becoming a citizen is almost unattainable for myself anytime soon and permanent residency is just as hard. I agree the law is very unfair, I pay taxes and contribute but don't get benifits.
Hahahaha so unfair
