PETALING JAYA: The Finance Ministry will expedite additional funding for 12 thermal scanners to help the Health Ministry prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the additional scanners will help Health authorities identify individuals who have the symptoms of the 2019 coronavirus, also known as .

"As the request is related to critical efforts to safeguard public health, I have asked the secretary-general of the Treasury Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir to provide every cooperation for this allocation to be channelled as soon as possible,” Lim said in a statement on Tuesday . The Finance Ministry will also provide the fullest cooperation to the Health Ministry to ensure it can carry out its duties according to the international health standards, said Lim.

Last week, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said his ministry will increase the number of thermal scanners at entry points into the country to help detect travellers who may be infected with 2019-nCoV.Malaysia has four confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV so far.
