NSTnation: Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad denied that such decision was made to downplay matters involving the infection.

SERDANG: The Health Ministry’s decision allowing only its director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah to issue statements on the current influenza situation in the country was made to avoid causing panic among the public.

“While we do not deny other parties assisting and collaborating with the ministry to raise awareness on health issues especially from the state level, simply issuing statements could trigger an alarm among the public. “We are not downplaying the matter. The director-general will continue to issue statements and I believe he can coordinate with all the states from the health departments to the local council level,” he told reporters at the Antibiotic Fun Run 2020 organised by the Ministries of Health and Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry here today.
