The latest diet trend entails going for long stretches without eating anything, but obesity experts say research so far suggests it may not be any better than other diets for weight loss.

Melissa Breaux Bankston, a CrossFit athletic trainer at CrossFit Algiers in New Orleans, works out at the gym Monday, Dec. 23, 2019. She participates in an intermittent fasting diet.

Melissa Breaux Bankston, a Crossfit instructor in New Orleans, Louisiana, also tried intermittent fasting as a way to curb her snacking. “I wanted to limit the amount of time that I was eating,” she said.benefits of intermittent fasting are still limited, including for its effectiveness with weight loss. But heading into the new year, you may be wondering whether it could help you get in better shape.Like other diets, intermittent fasting helps you lose weight by setting boundaries around food.

Regardless, people should consult their doctor before trying it. It’s not advised for children, people on certain medications and people with a history of eating disorders. One of the more popular approaches to intermittent fasting is to limit eating to an 8-hour window and to fast during the day's other 16 hours. This is called time-restricted feeding and isn't as difficult as some other approaches, since the fasting period can include the time you’re asleep.

Sumaya Kazi, who posts about her intermittent fasting online and offers coaching services on the diet, says it seems more difficult than it is partly because overeating has become the norm. “Intermittent fasting is more of a mental challenge than a physical challenge," she says.

Yes but it's amazingly simple - eat / don't eat. That's it. And within that simple framework you can start to make other changes like eating healthier, getting to the gym, etc.

I told a friend he was headed for an early grave if he didn't change his diet. He said he didn't want to die young, but he didn't want to stop living, either. Then he thanked me and said, 'Sure is nice to have friends who know everything!'

One Meal a Day does work for diabetics and worked for me last year losing 20 pounds. Plan on losing 20 more this year, but you are correct, diet alone does not work, the body needs some form of exercise-both cardio and strength training.

Fasting works

Food is not the enemy- you don’t have to “go long stretches without anything “ ....lack of moving the body is the enemy! Eat , enjoy your food ... and move the body more ... get active.

I like that smoked pork belly samwich Mmmm.
