After surgery, patients are offered two cycles of chemo or no treatment unless their cancer comes back, at which point they are given three cycles. Three men, 1.3 per cent, saw their cancer return — a nearly identical rate to previous studies using two cycles. Forty one per cent experienced a serious side effect. But only six men, or 2.6 per cent, had long-term effects such as hearing damage.
