The Canadian Snowbird Association says eliminating the insurance goes against one of the five pillars of the Canada Health Act: portability

The program covered out-of-country in-patient services up to $400 per day for a higher level of care, and up to $50 per day for emergency outpatient and doctor services.A spokeswoman for Health Minister Christine Elliott wouldn’t comment on the case as it is before the courts, but she says the program was costly and largely ineffectual.

Hayley Chazan says its limited coverage meant that Canadians who had no private insurance were left on the hook for “catastrophically large bills to pay.” The federal government has warned that the change, which came into effect on New Year’s Day, could lead to higher insurance premiums for Ontarians travelling abroad.

Health care is expensive/costs the country a lot. Should be more proactive in staying healthy and refrain from unhealthy lifestyles or be triaged to allow those that make the health effort go first. If you travel pay for extra coverage. ........................................

Maybe snowbirds should spend their retirement money in Canada. Or quit complaining.

$400/day is laughable. German universal coverage covers one all over the world excluding specialty transport outside the EU. This includes all procedures medicine even with preexisting conditions. Any condition treated outside the contry prevents further backlog in canada.

REALITY CHECK 🇨🇦 SNOWBIRDS Know you must buy TRAVEL INSURANCE for everyday you’re Away. The younger you are the cheaper extra insurance is.

You old timers voted for the guy. Sucks doesn’t it

Snowbirds file legal challenge against cuts to Ontario government travel insuranceA group representing Canadians who spend part of the year in sunnier climes says it's filed a legal challenge against Ontario's decision to scrap out-of-country health insurance. CONs need to be fought EVERY step of the way or we’ll be living back in the 1920s!! Is this travel insurance payed for with taxpayer dollars? If so it should not exist at all. If you can afford to live out of country, you can afford your own travel insurance. Anyone that travels outside of the country without purchasing private insurance is an idiot. It's cheap and covers more than what the gov covers. If you can afford to travel, you can afford to insure yourself.
