A top doctor has asked for the public’s help to pay for a vital heart machine for babies at the Rotunda Hospital due to a lack of government funding.
“We aren’t there yet and I don’t want to scare any parents of vulnerable babies that are worried and using the current machine but beyond four to six months we will definitely need a new machine.” He said: “How we assess heart function at the moment is slightly limited we are relying more on judgement rather than absolute numbers.“It is disappointing that we have to ask the public but this is nothing new, unfortunately.
“We don’t like doing that to babies that could be on a breathing machine or on vital nurse support across the city to get a scan.
