Officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say they are investigating a multi-state outbreak of a drug-resistant infection believed to be linked to puppies purchased from pet stores.

The people affected in the current outbreak range in age from 8 months to 70 years, and about half are female.
