Refugees without permanent visas can experience a prolonged sense of insecurity and displacement

Less than 1 per cent of these people have been. This means more refugees than ever are living with insecure or temporary visas.

For example, around 49 per cent of insecure visa holders had a probable diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder versus 30 per cent of secure visa holders. Further, about 43 per cent of insecure visa holders had a probable depression diagnosis versus 17 per cent of secure visa holders. Insecure visa holders were 2.4 times more likely to report suicidal intent compared to those with secure visa status.

Insecure visa holders were also more likely to receive assistance from a charity or NGO, and non-refugee members of the Australian community, compared to secure visa holders.

Real refugees can feel a prolonged sense of persecution and death without temporary protection visas. I know who I’d give our limited vacancies to.

Economic migrants posing as refugees are criminals. Real refugees stop at first safe port until it safe to go back home
