It was feared the life-saving treatment could have been withdrawn for children under two because it was too expensive.

Within a few months of our campaign being launched in 2018 the drugs were approved for use in Scotland - the first country in the UK to get them - after the Scottish Government struck a deal with manufacturer Vertex. Families feared for the future of their new born babies who were not old enough to receive the medication and would be barred from getting it in the future.

When the Record launched a campaign for the drugs to be available on the NHS in 2018 Scots patients were dying in hospital as medicine regulators fought over prices of drugs and red tape held up those being given free on compassionate grounds. “I would like to thank the Scottish Government and NHS Scotland. We are just really grateful the worry has been taken away. Everyone who will now benefit from the drugs will now have access.”
